In Theory… The toilet is functioning again.
This is our toilet.
Or was last week. As this is indie development at it’s finest, there’s bound to be the occasional surprise sewer maintenance from time to time. On the second day after our long pause and having nicely settled down and gotten super excited again to continue our endeavor, there was a knock on the door. βHello, we’re about to start the sewer maintenance. All sewer accesses will be closed, so water usage is forbidden from now on… What do you mean you weren’t informed?β.
Today we are sitting at our office again. Toilets working and all, and there is only a slight… ahem… odor left in the air. The last couple of weeks weren’t completely wasted though. We worked from nearby cafes and from our homes what we could.
No matter, we bring good news π We’re looking to release the gameplay trailer on October 28th and start the crowd funding campaign at the same time. \o/ (Did I really say the date out loud!? NowΒ I’m scared π )
(Disclaimer: Counting on that we won’t be disrupted by more… surprises. π )
October 28th? That’s 2 months from now π
Considering how long we’ve already waited, that’s no time at all! lol, that’s sooner than I expected really.
October 28th? That’s 2 months from now π
You are all correct π
Indie at it’s finest, that’s for sure π
Do you have some surprises planned for us? Screenshots, techtalk and such? π
I think we’ll cook something up π
Sweet!
Awesome; can’t wait to see game play of this outstanding game.
Yeah, it’s about time eh π
Great to hear you’re back in business! I’m sure you have discovered every single toilet humour joke there is during the maintenance…
How exactly are you arranging your crowd funding campaign? As far as I’m aware, it’s totally illegal in Finland, from having Paypal donation buttons to gathering money through sites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo.
Actually, from what I’ve gathered about crowdfunding here in Finland it isn’t really illegal.
Mostly it seems to be a matter of wording and such that makes it illegal. Basically it has to be handled as prepurchasing the game (or any other product you are funding).
That includes having a set maximum price for the product, not being able to pay for nothing, and it has to be made clear that the customers are, in fact, buying the product, and so on.
For anyone interested here’s a couple links about crowdfunding in Finland: (in finnish)

Yes, it’s not illegal. Heke is quite correct. It’s illegal to beg for money, but when crowdfunding can be compared to presales, then it’s legal.
Oh, I wasn’t aware of the clarification by the National Police Board. Thanks for those links.
The whole thing is still overly complicated in this country, but at least it’s something if they acknowledge that it is not illegal per se, as a method of funding. What if the crowdfunded project fails? That could be seen as deceiving the backers, or “presales customers” or something else obviously stupid. It’s quite a blow for a small indie company to go into court and possibly pay the legal fees, especially if it is a matter of wording.
Anyway, looking forward to your campaign!
Do you plan to use the money from crowd funding campaign to hire more 3d artists / animators etc. for your project?
I’m just afraid that two people, no matter how talented and hard-working, can’t finish a project like this within reasonable time.
And it’s the time that’s against you… Now your technology is lightyears ahead of competition, but two or three years from now and CryEngine 4 & Unreal Engine 4 knocking on the door, everybody and their dog will be able to produce titles looking like this…
So the sooner you can finish and release this, the bigger hit this will be.
Yes, if the campaign is successful enough. We decided from the get go to get through this by just the two of us if it came to that. And we have designed our content pipeline to produce world building content fast and effectively.
On the topic of time, you will be able to affect the timetable when the campaign starts now won’t you π
All in all, you are correct that finishing the game in reasonable time is beneficial to everyone. π
Estoy deseando que salga ya el juego, llevo siguiendolo desde octubre del 2012. Espero que me den acceso a la beta.
You understand spanish?
English please. π
You guys are awesome! Can’t wait until crowdfunding, I’ve been looking forward to throwing money at you for a while now!
Best of luck, and here’s to no more sewer maintenance.
