In Theory… Crowdfunding starts NOW!

After a two-week rain check we are finally ready to accept your money! We know it has been painfully burning in your socks and wallets and bank accounts but now you can feel the oh so sweet relief of parting with it! And for a good cause, no less!

Note: our campaign type is Fixed Funding, which means the goal must be passed or everyone will be refunded and we won’t get anything.

      That happened last week! Check on the earlier updates. They released the video the day they were planning to start this Indiegogo, but there were issues starting it, so just the video was released.

    €65,000 is a lot of money, especially for an indie game. I personally don’t have a problem with the amount you’re asking for, however, it is a lot of money. I am just concerned that with the still low levels of popularity that this games has will it be able to make it to the quite large funding goal that has been set. We’ll see… We’ll see…

      I doubt the popularity of the platform matters all that much as the backers will primarily be those who know about Reset and not those who accidentally stumble upon its crowd funding page.

      And in what country is €65,000 a lot of money? It’s the average yearly salary of a game developer in the US in 2012 according to Gamasutra. And in this case we’re talking about funding an entire game.

      $65,000 is actually a ridiculously low amount for a game.
      For examples of indie game budgets, Braid cost $180k, World of Goo cost $140k.
      And those game are not even in the same league with the kind of engine quality Reset is aiming for.
      Ho, another example, developing ONE more character for Skullgirls cost $150,000.

      So NO, $65,000 is not a lot.
      They could have easily ask for $200,000 and it still would have been reasonable.

    • Yeah, in a certain perspective 65K is a lot of money. And as people kindly pointed out here, in some other not so much. The amount we’re aiming for is a result of carefully calculating everything. Like for instance, roughly 25% of the amount is first lost in paypal/indiegogo and VAT costs. So the amount is roughly down to 55K before we get to use it to fund the actual project. And the amount has to cover the perk manufacturing costs as well. So the amount we get to use for the project is not directly what we’re aiming for.

      The amount is realistic and we would be shooting our own leg if we put up a campaign with a goal that wouldn’t cover all expenses. Now the challenge is, like you said, to get enough people on board. I find it actually very exciting, because this is a very real test to see how many people really care about the project :)

      And for the popularity, you have the power to spread the word. :D

My only concern is that it might be hard to reach the goal given Indiegogo’s less popular platform (secondary to Kickstarter for sure) but it’s obviously an issue being on Kickstarter when from Finland. Anyway – the best way for us to help out is to spread this, so Lewis: let’s get to work and get the word out :)

    Nice t-shirt! Nearly all of the fan-shirts I wear are ones that don’t have obvious logos (ideally on the shoulder if present at all). I don’t enjoy being a walking billboard, but I’m always excited to talk with people when they’re curious enough to ask!

    There are dosens of KS’s from non american countries doing KS so thats a bad example. It just takes a bit more work/time/people to work with.

    Either way I think the tiers just dont offer enough value for me. Just some scenic quick footage moments really dont convince me. 45 for a game and soundtrack you hear during the game and some fluff? Not for me.

    Lets see if it does that for enough other people.

    • Hey, yeah KS is not available to us directly. And as you pointed out all it takes is more work.

      We considered it and came to the conclusion after consulting people who have done it that it would be a too big of an hassle for us at this stage, work and money wise. So carefully considering the options we concluded that the platform will not be an issue. Those who want to support us will do so regardless if we’re on KS or Indiegogo. Both are well known.

      Too bad you don’t find the project worth funding. What would the project have to have to tingle your spider senses? :)

    I’ve heard multiple times that crowd funding is not legally possible in Finland. Is that just a rumour or how you guys pull it out? Your answer might be interesting to anyone struggling with funding in Finland.

    Of course I will support this project, just wondering.. what will you do if you do not reach the goal? Will you continue to work on the project, or is it ‘game over’?

    • Hey, we’ll see what the outcome and feedback is first before deciding anything. So far it’s looking good :)
